Entering Mentoring Facilitator Training

Quality mentoring is an important factor in the success of researchers across all disciplines and career stages—and you can contribute to a positive research mentorship culture on campus!

This workshop will prepare you to offer research mentor training using the evidence-based Entering Mentoring curriculum. Training using this curriculum has been shown to strengthen research mentoring relationships with diverse mentees.

During this one-day, in-person workshop, participants will gain the knowledge, confidence, and facilitation skills needed to implement mentor training broadly at UW–Madison or for their own departments or programs.

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with the breadth of the Entering Mentoring curriculum
  • Practice facilitating activities
  • Develop a plan for implementing what they learned

This workshop supports facilitators offering sections through WISCIENCE (Advancing Research Mentoring Practice) and Delta (Research Mentor Training), and is available for faculty, instructors, staff, or administrators who are committed to implementing research mentor training workshops based upon Entering Mentoring in their programs or departments.

ARMP Facilitator Profiles

Get to know some of the faculty who have gone through the Entering Mentoring curriculum and now facilitate Advancing Research Mentoring Practice (ARMP).

  • Meet Christina Hull, ARMP Facilitator

"How are we going to make science more accessible? We're going to do that by changing the environment and culture, and by mentoring the whole trainee so that people can see themselves in this space and stay in the space."

  • Meet Beth Meyerand, ARMP Facilitator

"It is incredibly gratifying to hear from participants that what they learned in ARMP has made a tremendously positive impact in how they mentor—that the concepts they learned were totally new to them and are now indispensable."

  • Meet Darcie Moore, ARMP Facilitator

"Every time I facilitate ARMP, I get to review and remind myself of different aspects of mentoring to consider. I feel like I take something back to my lab with me from discussions with each cohort."
