If you could choose anyone for a mentor, who would it be?
I would choose Dr. Ola Brown. She’s a British-Nigerian medical doctor, entrepreneur, and founder of Flying Doctors Nigeria, the first air ambulance service in West Africa. Her work in healthcare innovation, emergency medicine, and health financing is groundbreaking. She combines medicine with business and policy, which aligns with my own interests in global health equity.
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the 2nd-floor chemistry common rooms. It might be a little nerdy, but I LOVE the hominess and the opaque whiteboards, they make studying way more enjoyable!
What do you like most about Madison?
I love that there’s always a hidden gem to explore! Whether it’s boat rides on the lake, underground brunch spots, or a new 90s-themed arcade diner, there’s always something exciting to discover.
What are your favorite snacks for a study session?
Cheddar Chex Mix, microwave kettle corn popcorn, and Butterfingers! They keep me going through long study sessions and make everything just a little better.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
I would be a dolphin! They are playful, intelligent, social, are always exploring, and love to dance through the water, just like I love to dance in real life!
What is an academic accomplishment that you are proud of?
I’m proud of presenting my research at conferences and balancing rigorous coursework while being involved in multiple extracurriculars, all while maintaining a stellar GPA. It’s been a challenge, but it has helped me grow so much academically and professionally!
What are you looking forward to about being a peer leader this semester?
I’m looking forward to building connections, sharing knowledge, and creating a supportive space for students to thrive. I love seeing others succeed and grow in their academic journeys!
What sparked your interest in STEM?
My mom’s journey in STEM has been incredibly inspiring: she started as a veterinarian and later became a psych nurse, always working where the greatest needs were. Her resilience and dedication to helping others fueled my passion for medicine, neuroscience, and advocating for mental health.
What is your vision for life after graduation?
I plan to attend medical school to further my knowledge and expertise in medicine, allowing me to make a greater impact in both neuroscience and mental health advocacy. Additionally, I envision bridging health equity gaps globally: working on health policy, building clinics in Nigeria, and collaborating with organizations like the WHO.
