Madeleine Roberts was a WISCIENCE STEM Public Service Fellow in 2021 while pursuing a PhD in chemistry with a minor in life sciences communication. Today, she is a fiscal analyst on the Natural Resources team at the Wisconsin Legislative Fiscal Bureau. In her free time, she enjoys crochet, needlepoint, and yoga.
What was your favorite part of the STEM Public Service Fellows program?
The community of like-minded people from all parts of campus.
What was one of the most valuable things you learned as a Fellow?
Better listening skills.
How have you applied the skills and knowledge from this program in your career?
I apply concepts from this program every day! I often think back to our discussions about engaging stakeholders with different perspectives, especially in better understanding the needs of policymakers I serve.
