Meet Adam Ghazzali, CMBS Summer Research Student

A man with short, curly brown hair gestures at a poster on a bulletin board while another man with ear-length black hair listens.
Adam Ghazzali presents his research at the CMBS Poster Fair.

Adam Ghazzali came to UW–Madison to participate in the Cellular and Molecular Biology of Stress Summer Research Program organized by WISCIENCE. During this 10-week program, Adam had ample opportunities to get hands-on research experience in the Peters Lab while also learning about research careers and science communication skills.

Adam comes from Kenner, Louisiana, and attends Xavier University Of Louisiana, where he is majoring in biology. Outside of his studies, Adam enjoys MMA, playing League Of Legends, and sleeping.

Briefly, what is the research project you are working on right now?

Testing different promoters in E.Coli to see which gives the best gene expression. This is a proof of concept that will later be used on Z.Mobilis.

What has been the most valuable part of your lab experience this summer?

Being able to experience a large lab. My lab back home does not have many researchers but working in a larger lab exposed me to multiple techniques.

Two young men talk and laugh in front of a science poster hanging on a bulletin board.

How do you think your experience here will impact your goals for the future?

Being exposed to CRISPR this early in my career will allow me to use it more frequently and easily in the future.

What advice would you give to future CMBS students?

Learn how to have fun during the program. Get a little friend group and test a little bit of everything. Madison is fun and so is the program.
