Yiran Hou is a 2024 WISCIENCE Scientific Teaching Fellow and a postdoc studying genomics and immunology. She previously earned a BS in biology from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and a PhD in molecular genetics and genomics from Washington University in St. Louis. She also enjoys rock climbing.
What has been your favorite part of this program so far?
Discussing and practicing teaching with peers!
What are you looking forward to doing in this program?
Practicing providing and receiving constructive feedback on teaching design and teaching practice.
What are some of your career goals and how do you think this program will help you achieve them?
I want to take on a role that has responsibilities in both research and teaching. This program has helped me develop the mindset and skillset for teaching. It has also allowed me to see the research component of teaching.
What is one of the most valuable things you have learned as a Fellow?
Reflection is the way to move forward better.
